Turkey has a paradoxical relationship with wine. Although it has been producing the beverage for at least seven thousand years, as its cultural cradle, the country is not among the world's largest producers. However, the size of its vineyards is surprising. Most of the grapes are used to produce juices, raisins and fresh grapes. Only a small portion is used to make Turkish wine, which is exported, since Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country with very low alcohol consumption. In 1925, the founder of the Turkish Republic and the country's first president, Mustafa Atatürk, recognized and registered the commercialization of wines, following the wave of modernization in Turkey. Turkish viticulture has grown and developed over the years, enchanting wine lovers from all corners of the world with its delicious and elegant examples made from native grapes. This is a wonderful new product that has recently arrived in Brazil. It was made exclusively with the Kalecik Karasi grape variety (pronounced Kah-le-djic-car-ah-ser), an indigenous Turkish variety. Its name means 'black grape of the little castle', in this case, the Kalecik Castle, whose ruins are located on the outskirts of the city of the same name, 65 km from the capital Ankara. Its signature is its wonderful and inviting aroma of burnt caramel, which jumps from the glass and perfumes the environment. In addition, it has an aroma of red fruits, fine tannins and just the right amount of acidity for a great pairing.
