Organoleptic Characteristics and Harmonization

Winemaking traditions in Abruzzo date back to the 6th century BC thanks to the Etruscans, who played an important role in introducing viticulture. Although the region has had a difficult time, the last 50 years have seen a renaissance in the production of quality wine through the efforts of cooperative wineries concentrated in the province of Chieti. This is mainly due to the geographical composition of Abruzzo, which is quite remarkable for being a hilly and rugged region, with an extensive coastline and a lush landscape, full of national parks and forests that contribute positively to wine production. The Collefrisio winery was born from the meeting of Amadeo De Luca and Antonio Patricelli, third-generation winemakers who came together in 2004 to satisfy their ancestors’ passion for the land and vineyards. They acquired an existing property on a hilltop and created a winery where they combined modernity with ancient traditions. The Marvellous Semis is the fruit of their magnificent work. The native Abruzzo grape variety shows its best side due to the rigorous selection of grapes, which come from the best locations on the property. The result could not be different, simply a fantastic nectar that conveys all the potential of Montepulciano. It is a wine of extreme quality, with rich characteristics and great complexity, possibly due to the long time spent aging in oak. It was not by chance that it was elected the top wine of the Collefrisio winery and it lives up to its position. It has a beautiful ruby color with a tendency towards garnet and violet tones. It is completely clear and draws attention when served. On the nose, it displays a wide variety of aromas, we sense wild fruits, such as blackberries and ripe cherries, accompanied by a subtle touch of pomegranate. Notes of herbs, black truffles and black pepper are also noticeable. On the palate, the smell is confirmed. It is spicy, powerful and very tasty. The tannins are soft and silky and are in perfect balance with the fruit, wood and alcohol. The acidity is excellent and the long, persistent finish rounds off the wine with a flourish. Pairing: This is the perfect wine to accompany fine cuisine. Try it with cheeses, pastas, pork, roast beef and game meats. It is essential to aerate it beforehand, if possible for 45 minutes. Enjoy at 18°C, in smooth, crystal-clear, rounded glasses with a wide opening. This wine is ready to drink, but can be enjoyed at its peak until the end of 2025.
